Language Placement Exam
The testing fee is good for one exam only. Results are permanently stored in our database, so they may be retrieved at any later time. Dishonesty (taking more than one exam under the same login) will result in an additional charge and only the first score will be counted.
After you have completed the exam, ask the attendent to verify your score and placement. After the attendent has signed your receipt, click finished and close the test window. Remember to log off the computer before you leave the DiBona Center. Please continue to the placement exam.
If your background in a foreign language is from high school and the language you took was French, German, or Spanish, you should arrange to take the Language Placement Exam. To do this, sign up in the Department of Languages and Literature office in LNCO 1400. The fee is $10.00 and the test is taken on computer at the DiBona Center for Educational Technology in OSH 112.
Tests are given from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM weekdays. Allow about 30 minutes to complete the test. The DiBona Center often has extended hours, so call 581-6677 to arrange to take the test after 3 PM Mondays through Thursdays.
If you place 3000+, take the 3040 class. If the language you took in high school was not French, German, or Spanish, arrangements should be made to speak to the advisor of your language to determine your proficiency level. If your background in a foreign language is from residence in a foreign language-speaking environment or other non-academic sources, you should take the 3060 course. If you were raised in a bilingual household, or if you gained language proficiency from extended residence (1-1/2 years or more) in a foreign language-speaking country, you should take the 3060 course.
